Created around the theme of norito, traditional Shinto ritual prayers.
In this installation, visitors press a button set into the top of a green turban shell and speak to it, prompting a coconut to respond.
One from the depths of the sea, the other from the crown of a southern tree—two distant forms of life attempt to exchange words. Sometimes they connect; sometimes they do not.
And yet we continue to speak, and to listen. Through the dialogue between shell and coconut, the work portrays both the dignity and the absurdity of that human effort.
